AI Lecture Series, Vol. IV - Machine Learning for Computational Finance (2013)

forthcoming

AI Lecture Series, Vol. III - Data Mining Applications (2010)

26th October 2010 - 7th December 2010

Dear reader,

after the successful events on Artificial Intelligence (Vol. I, 2005) and Data Streams (Vol. II, 2007), the third volume of the AI Lecture Series concerns Data Mining, which is commonly known as a non-trivial discovery process to find hidden, but useful structures in masses of data. Data Mining refers to a life-cycle process that is composed of the management of data and its quality assurance, the strategic planning of analytical steps by taking advantage of the research fields Machine Learning and Statistics, and the interpretation of the discovered results towards its deployment.
In the last years, the importance of Data Mining has been continuously increased. It is currently applied in many industrial and scientific disciplines, focusing on issues like market basket analysis, customer profiling, time series analysis, prediction and scoring in general, and many others. Beside the standard industrial sectors like finance, retail, or telecommunication, however, new challenging disciplines have established in the recent past. Especially, proceeding research in Bioinformatics, Security & Trust and the media call for more analytic intelligence regarding a reasonable and completive understanding. The AI Lecture Series proposes a bridge regarding the knowledge gap and aims at informing interested parties. Fundamental aspects will be transferred as well as selected recent achievements in the corresponding areas.

Who should attend?
The presentations will be performed in such a way that they are understandable for non-experts. Each contribution aims at a stimulating as well as vivid knowledge transfer through a mixture of the conception of fundamentals, the presentation of experiences and pro ject results, and the introduction of underlying theoretical concepts. With respect to this, all interested persons from academics, industry, and other fields with a particular interest in Data Mining are kindly invited. The participation is free of charge.

Impact for Luxembourg
With the creation of the interdisciplinary centres SnT (Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust) and LCSB (Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine), the field of Data Mining is immediately concerned. Therefore, AI Lecture Series should be understood as a series of events that actively support a knowledge transfer for Luxembourg. With the University Luxembourg and its interdisciplinary centers, an excellent platform is given.

AI Lecture Series, Vol. II - Data Streams (2007)

13th November 2007 - 18th December 2007
Dear Reader,

The topic of the 2007 'AI lecture series' event is data streams. Data streams are generally be seen as a fluid sequence of data of any kind (texts, transactions in a database, etc.) that is lost once it is read. We thereore will focus on questions like what data streams are, which streams of data can be considered, how data streams can be processed, or how we may detect temporal patterns in there.

In this respect, we hope that the presentations will be interesting and of high quality as it had been in the Artificial Intelligence Lecture Series 2005.

Best wishes,
Christoph Schommer

AI Lecture Series, Vol. I - Artificial Intelligence (2005)

17th May 2005 - 5th July 2005

Dear reader,

I still remember the day when we have been asked by some computer science studentsto give a lecture in Artificial Intelligence (AI). And indeed, at this time the idea has been born to organize an international event and to invite international experts in the field of AI. Now, after having finished the lecture series, we can be more than satisfied: the average number of participants per talk has been constantly veryhigh (approx. 25), we have succeeded in welcoming international experts from five different countries (Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, and The Netherlands), and - last but not least - we have received very positive feedbacks by many of the listeners - a consequence of talks of high quality. I am happy to present you this small booklet (1,7 MB) that contains a short summary of the talks, a brief description of the speakers, and some visual impressions.

Luxembourg, July 2005

Herzlichst, Cordialement, Best Regards, and Vilmols Merci!
Christoph Schommer
